Indian GST from 2016?
21 January 2015 Amanda Darley, Head of Operations and Engagement
Discussions about changes to the indirect tax regime in India have been going on for many years. However, it now appears that GST is likely to be introduced which could have significant implications for businesses operations there - draft GST legislation is being prepared and an implementation date of 1 April 2016 is being discussed.
The enactment of the GST Bill hinges firstly on reforms to the Indian Constitution which are awaiting consideration by the Indian Parliament, which is expected to consider and pass the relevant bill during the next two to three months. It is expected that draft GST legislation will be available for review/comment shortly after the constitutional reforms are enacted.
