Thank you to APUC, who have recently alerted the sector that fraudsters appear to be looking at mandatory public sector contract award notices and using the opportunity to submit fake invoices for the new suppliers. They clearly hope that the public bodies will not be familiar with invoices from, or have established banking details from, the new suppliers at the time and will be more likely to pay them. We know this may be a risk that you feel you have covered, but please do highlight this to relevant colleagues within your institutions so that they can be extra vigilant, and take the opportunity to review your processes for the first payment against a supplier where practical.
