Video 4 - Universities and funding in English HE

08 August 2018      Matt Sisson, Projects and Membership Manager

Last week we launched the third of our six videos that we’ve produced on the subject of universities and value. We’re pleased to be able to launch the fourth video this week, titled “Universities and Funding”. It looks at where universities get money from, how the student loan system in England really works, the implications this has for the decisions that English universities make about their finances, and some of the different ‘cross-subsidies’ at play across the HE sector, that make changing funding systems a complex challenge.

There are six videos in the series. They are each around five minutes long, and are intended as a communication and hopefully thought-provoking resource. We hope that, among other things, they’ll help the sector communicate to those beyond about what universities are, what they do, the challenges they face, and the thinking that goes behind some of the decisions that are made.

The two remaining videos to be released in the next fortnight cover the topics of how and why universities invest, and university culture. Please feel free to share these widely if you think they will be useful. If you have any questions about the videos or would like to embed them in your own sites, then drop Matt an email.
