BUFDG are delighted to announce that Martin Scammell has agreed to lead two one-day courses on VAT and Property in April 2012. As many of you will know, Martin is a self-employed VAT consultant, working with a number of law firms and tax practices. He has specialised in property and construction issues for almost 30 years, first in VAT Policy in Customs & Excise, and subsequently at Ernst & Young, where he headed up the VAT real estate group, and then as head of indirect tax at Eversheds. Martin is one of the UK’s leading experts on VAT on Real Estate, the author of a veritable bible on the subject: “VAT on Construction Land and Property” and a contributor to “Tolley’s Property Taxation”. He is a member of the British Property Federation’s VAT Committee, of HMRC’s VAT Land and Property Liaison Group, and has served on a number of Treasury/HMRC working parties.

Day 1 is: What you really need to know about VAT & Property. Martin will review the key areas of property and construction VAT and highlight problems and opportunities, and help you to identify where you will need to bring in expert help. This day is aimed at Finance or estates staff with working knowledge of VAT, who would like to widen out or refresh their knowledge in this area.

Day 2 is: What you need to worry about when dealing with VAT and Property. Martin will use a series of case studies to review the tricky areas of property and construction VAT where common mistakes are made, and you could improve the VAT outcome. Martin will also cover current issues and concerns – including recent tax cases, and changes to HMRC guidance and policy. The content to be covered on this day is aimed at Experienced University Tax Managers with strong knowledge; ideally having attended one or more of Martin’s property courses.

Fee Details:

The full fee for each day is £350 or £625 for the two-day event, however an early bird system is in operation, as follows:

Single Days: Book before the end of December 2011 and pay a discounted price of £325 for either day 1 or day 2

Both Days: Book before the end of December 2011 and pay a discounted price of £499

Book in the month of January and pay a discounted price of £549

Bookings between February and the closing date will be charged at the full amount of £625

The fee does not include accommodation or subsistence (except for lunch).  Accommodation can be booked directly with Burleigh Court at a cost of £85 including VAT per night for B & B, or The Link Hotel at a cost of £72 including VAT per night for B & B.  (The Link is a mile or so from the venue).
