Overview
Many institutions continue to struggle with accounting for their final salary pension schemes and this is an area we will focus on in detail during this year's course. We'll remind you of the requirements of FRS 17, help you get to grips with the contents of your actuarial reports and explain how to avoid common mistakes.
Heritage assets continue to cause concern and the publication of FRS 30 means that this year universities will have to disclose more information than ever before. We'll explain what the new standard means for your institution.
During the current financial year many universities are feeling the effects of the economic downturn. Issues which haven't been encountered for some years are hot topics once again so we'll include a recap on areas such as impairment testing, reorganisation provisions, onerous contracts and exceptional items.
We'll also include a brief review of other emerging issues and a general update on other UK GAAP developments.
There has been much debate in recent years about the future of financial reporting in the UK and the possible move to IFRS. This course will bring you up-to-date with the ASB's latest thinking and will outline proposals that are likely to see UK GAAP replaced in the next few years.
Case studies and examples from real universities financial statements will be used throughout to illustrate key points.
