Introduction to VAT in HEIs

It would not be possible to cover everything you need to know about VAT in a week let alone a single day.  This course therefore aims to explain a few basic concepts, and highlight the areas of difficulty where you may need to take additional advice.

Balancing Risk Management with Revenue Maximisation

The recent banking turmoil has moved treasury management policy and counterparty risk management to the top of the agenda.  Financial pressures continue with the worsening fiscal situations in many countries as evidenced by Greece and the credit rating downgrades of Spain and Portugal.

This course will take attendees through a series of individual and group exercises to provide insight into identifying liquidity and cash flow management; credit and counterparty risk management; market risk management; the different types of debt instrument; and how this can be pulled together in a balanced treasury risk management policy document.

PAYE Risks and Rewards in the University Sector

Following the success of this course last year, BUFDG have decided to run an additional day in 2010.  As we are increasingly aware, HMRC are adopting a risk based approach to managing taxpayers, and HMRC have identified that one of the key risk areas for HEIs is PAYE.

This course will give an overview of common PAYE issues (outside of the regular payroll), and make some suggestions for risk assessment and management.

Bring Your Corporation Tax Computations In-House

We've all heard the horror stories about the impending cost of on-line filing.  Fortunately, we can all buy ourselves a bit of time if we submit our corporation tax returns for 2009/10 by the end of March 2011.  If HEIs took control of their own corporation tax in-house, they should be able to ensure they file before the deadline, and save a significant sum on professional fees at the same time.

This course aims to give participants the confidence to achieve this goal.
