Welsh universities are facing a cut to recurrent funding next year, with the savings being split into research and widening participation, the Times Higher reports. The HEFCW recurrent grant funding letter, which will be sent to Universities later this month, will outline the £4m reduction and also warn universities that HEFCW "cannot rule out the possibility of having to revise these planning assumptions before, or during, the academic year 2010-11 and strongly encourage institutions to make prudent assumptions in their own planning".
The article also contains news that Leighton Andrews, the Education Minister has commissioned PwC to review the efficiency of the Welsh education sector.
