The Royal Society has published a report entitled 'The scientific century: securing our future prosperity' which contains two main messages, firstly that there is the need to place science and innovation at the heart of the UK's long-term strategy for economic growth and secondly that there is fierce competitive challenge from countries which are investing at a scale and speed that the UK may struggle to match. The Financial Times reports the publication of the Royal Society report alongside optimism, prompted by Sir James Dyson's report "Ingenious Britain" that a Tory government would keep R&D tax credits.
