Middlesex University, which already has overseas campuses in Dubai and Mauritius, plans to open a new campus in Delhi's satellite town of Noida, said its vice-chancellor Michael Driscoll on a visit to India this week, reports the website Indiaedunews.net. The BBC reports that Imperial College is going to open a medical school in Singapore, in partnership with a local university Nanyang Technological University. This is perhaps a good time to reflect on how the arrogance associated with being a native speaker of the world's language is justified, but is it? An article in last Saturday's Guardian laments the low numbers of school pupils learning a foreign language and suggests that learning a language can boost your career at any stage. Brian Groom in the FT also worries about the UK becoming trapped by its own langauge and agrees with Martin Kettle in the Guardian who thinks "We are cutting ourselves off from the world."
