Payroll fraud, financial sanctions, & other fraud bits

We’ve had a report of the payroll fraud rearing its ugly head again this year. Phishing emails direct staff to fake HR intranet login pages. Their login details are then used to update their details prior to payroll so that their pay is diverted to the fraudsters. If you do not do so on a regular basis, please double check with employees who have updated their bank details.

There have also been a couple of discussions on the fraud boards recently. If you receive large, suspicious deposits into the university bank account, do file a suspicious activity report. Remember that most English HEIs get free access to Creditsafe for verifying bank details.
