As well as the current call for evidence for the government’s review of Post-18 education and funding in England (deadline 2nd May…), the Welsh government has launched a consultation on the proposals for the operation of the new regulator – the Tertiary Education and Research Commission for Wales – as outlined in last year’s White Paper. The big news is that one of the proposals is for the commission to cover the entire post-16 education sector, which creates interesting scenarios for assurance and funding principles during discussions later in the document about the extent to which all providers under the commission’s remit (whether school sixth-forms or universities) should be treated the same. Thankfully the consultation period in Wales is more generous than in England, which should give the sector adequate time to digest and respond to the 130-odd pages of proposals. The deadline for submissions is the 17th July.
