For those responsible for writing their Modern Slavery Act Statement, we are delighted to confirm a new free resource to help you meet the requirements of the legislation and clearly reflect the process of due diligence you are undertaking in your institution. The guidance gives practical advice on what to include, how the statement links to organisational policies, understanding and applying due diligence, risk and even some sample contract variations.
The guidance is written in a user friendly way by Dr Olga Martin-Ortega, Professor of Public International Law and Leader of the Business, Human Rights and the Environment Research Group (www.bhre.org). Olga has often delivered training for the sector and has regularly shared with us her research on the topic.
The guidance is not a template, it simply provides do's and don’t's on how to approach the task well in a University. Statements are due six months from the end of your financial year so a reminder that for Universities, the next statement must be written, signed and published in an prominent place on your website no later than 31st January 2019. If you have any feedback or questions do get in touch.
