Global Mobility event, slides available

17 July 2019      Caroline Jones, Employment tax director

Heriot-Watt University recently hosted a joint BUFDG/UHR event – Global Mobility, the international employment challenge. This was in response to a well-received event held in London earlier this year.

Managing the consequences of internationalisation is becoming more of a challenge for many universities, with more and more employees travelling to different sites around the world, either on a short-term or more permanent basis. As a result, the fast-paced event covered the legal, tax and practical aspects of what it means to have an international presence and globally mobile employees.

The line-up included Alun Thomas and Barry Nichol of Anderson Strathern who gave us the ‘kilted version’ of the employment law implications of overseas appointments and the flying faculty, Claire Edwards and Pauline Devine of KPMG who gave us an insight into the key challenges for the HE sector, Marie Green and Gemma Buxton of PwC who talked us through their 10 top tips if you are thinking of sending people overseas and finally Richard Claughton, our host for the day, who is Global Director of Human resources at Heriot-Watt university. Richard shared his experiences of what being an international university meant to him. The slides are available here.
