January's Treasury Management Newsletter

25 January 2018      Matt Sisson, Projects and Membership Manager

We unfortunately missed off the Treasury Management newsletter in last week’s Digest. Better late than never! In it, Tim writes:

“Thanks to Will Hobbs, an economist and Head of Investment Strategy at Barclays for the headline article, covering his thoughts on the UK economy for 2018 and beyond. With Bank Ring Fencing still in the headlines and with the media tending to look for attention grabbing headlines, Andy Playle provides a further update on this.  There are many regulatory impacts affecting the sector in the months ahead and RSM provide us with a reminder of GDPR with some guidance notes and news of roundtable events.

Having attended many STA International forums in recent years, a common discussion point relates to payments from Nigeria for student fees.  Flywire have provided an article that suggests the situation may be starting to ease – you may disagree!  We welcome David Baker of Consumer Intelligence to our family of contributors. David has penned an interesting piece on the UK’s growing Education Services with China.  As student bodies become more demanding in understanding their University’s stance onEthical Investing and Sustainability, Andy's second article informs that this all started 250 years ago with the Quakers.

Interest in Peer to Peer Encryption for accepting card payments is gaining traction within the sector. I first covered this nearly two years ago – this update informs where the five main acquirers are in being able to offer this to the sector. And finally, Neill Mackinnon of STA provides a brief update on the Trending Discussion Points seen in the last round of client forums that took place during last November and December.”
