Moving your goods to the EU or Common Transit countries

30 June 2020      Andrea Marshall, Tax Specialist

HMRC have issued various pieces of guidance regarding moving goods to or from the EU or Common Transit countries.

The Common Transit countries are:

  • Iceland
  • Norway
  • Liechtenstein
  • Switzerland
  • Turkey
  • North Macedonia
  • Serbia

By using Common Transit, you can move your goods quicker as:

  • customs declarations and duties are not required at each border crossing
  • you can complete some customs processes away from the border

You can appoint a Customs agent to deal with this on your behalf - this is set-out in this guidance note.

The notes that were issued today are:

Get your business ready to move goods to the EU or Common Transit countries

Check if you can use Transit to move goods to the EU and Common Transit countries

Bring goods into or through the UK using Union and Common Transit
