BUFDG/Vialto Global Mobility Roundtables

03 May 2023      Julia Ascott, Employment Taxes Specialist

We were back travelling last week attending the BUFDG/Vialto Global Mobility roundtables for the Higher Education sector. Meetings took place in Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham and London, were well attended and the free lunches were excellent!

We were very lucky to have Qing Miao from Vialto in attendance at each of the meetings, alongside her fellow China specialist, James. Alongside some fascinating insights into economics and culture around higher education in China, there were lots of practical hints and tips shared, particularly as Qing has only just returned from her latest trip to China! There were also a number of queries from attendees on the types of visas that should be applied for when travelling to China.

Time was spent discussing business travellers, and the various aspects of the agreements that can be reached to assist with any tax obligations. Vialto also updated attendees on the likely ‘go live’ dates for the UK’s pre-travel check, ETA with the 1st phase to start around November 2023, and also Europe’s checker ETIAS which will start some time in 2024.

Vialto has provided a copy of the slides used during the meetings, although the discussions led the meetings rather than the slides.
