THRIVING OR SURVIVING?  Developing personal resilience as an HE professional

The HE profession (particularly HR) is known to be amongst the most demanding for managing others’ emotions and is therefore at higher risk of the stressors known to impact on mental health.  The high intensity of emotional management often arises when handling organisational change initiatives, redundancy/furlough programmes, interpersonal conflict, union disputes, as well as disciplinary and grievance cases.  Whilst HR actively supports the wellbeing of others, it’s rare that professionals spend time learning how to strengthen their own resilience to better ride the waves of today’s turbulent world, where increased isolation has become the norm.

This action learning experience, underpinned by psychological research, gives you the knowledge, tools and techniques to better manage your own wellbeing, ensuring you thrive, not just survive.

Scheduled over a 3-week period, you will be able to experiment with new routines, redesigned support mechanisms, self-awareness exercises, different ways of thinking and responding to external events, while monitoring the effect on your wellbeing.

Previous delegates have told us:

  • 'Lesley’s knowledge, experience and the way in which she engaged with us was fantastic'
  • 'The content was pitched totally to what I needed (especially the mix of looking at resilience in a HR context which is quite rare to find)'
  • 'I’ve gained a lot of valuable insights and techniques I can use from this, in work and in life generally'

Learning Steps

Step 4:      Facilitated lunchtime Mindful Meditation practice (40 minutes)

Step 5:      On-line session (2 hrs) with fellow participants to review and share learning, with further tools including the ‘Five Essentials’ for thriving, and how to ‘maintain your parachute’.
