Any of these activities may bring unexpected costs, obligations to file tax returns, pension issues and other compliance costs. But how do you know what might cause a problem, what questions to ask and what the implications might be?
This training session will cover the complex tax issues in a way that will be accessible to your International Office as well as your teams in Finance, HR, Payroll, Legal and Tax. There really is something for everyone!
We will discuss the common activities and scenarios when it comes to specific education international activities/contracts, the issues that arise and practically how these issues can be managed. This will enable you to spot the potential issues as you become aware of them, ask the right questions and seek advice from your tax team or advisors as appropriate.
The first half of the session will consider what the basic principles are, before looking at how they are applied in practice with some case studies and discussion. Topics will include withholding taxes, foreign exchange controls, permanent establishments, tax equalisation policies, VAT, GST and those other weird and wonderful words that you might have heard as part of your University’s expansion into China, the US, India, the Middle East or closer to home in Europe.
This BUFDG event will be led by KPMG who have assisted a number of universities in this area and have previously given a number of presentations at the Tax Conference on this very subject. They will bring a specialist in each of Employment and Corporate Taxes, and VAT so you can come armed with any international tax question you might need answering!
