Action Learning is a powerful development experience for leaders. It brings people together to exchange, support and challenge each other in action and learning. UHR is partnering with AUDE, BUFDG and HESPA (our equivalent for professionals across estates, strategic planning and finance) to offer this to colleagues at Deputy Director / Heads of Department or equivalent level.
These action learning sets will provide a confidential space for around six colleagues to explore real and significant workplace issues whilst developing strengths in listening and skilful questioning. Facilitated by Lucy Pow the sessions will take place online across a 5-month period starting in October 2026. There will be two action learning sets each time to enable the group to explore issues two delegates are grappling with. The potential confidential nature of issues being discussed means that colleagues who sign up are explicitly agreeing to Chatham House rules for these sessions.
The 5 online calls, from a confidential space with cameras on, will take place as follows:
Thursday 8 October 09.30-10.30: Introductory call. This will be an opportunity to get to know each other, understand how the action learning set will work, and agree initial practical and behavioural terms of engagement.
Thursday 22 October 09.30-11.30: ALS 1 & 2
Thursday 26 November 09.30-11.45: ALS 3 & 4
Thursday 14 January 09.30-11.45: ALS 5 & 6
Thursday 4 February 09.30-10.30: Reflection and next steps
How much will it cost?
The rate will be £350+VAT per candidate for the full set of 5 sessions.
Lucy Pow is a Leadership Partner, HR Consultant and Coach. She works with a wide variety of organisations and specialises in higher education. How do I register interest?
To ensure we balance the group with colleagues from across functions, please express an interest in joining the ALS by booking a place - click on the 'Book Now' button and fill in your details by Friday 18 September 2026. Please ensure you can attend all the sessions before expressing your interest.
Following the closing date, we will confirm if the set is taking place and will then contact successful applicants to allow you to make payment.
What if I can't make the dates advertised above? If you are unable to make the dates of this action learning set, please email julie@uhr.ac.uk and we will add you to a waiting list in case interest is high and we are able to offer this again at some point in the year.
Should anyone wish to know more about the Action Learning Sets prior to applying, please email cpd@uhr.ac.uk
