VAT & Property Update

04 December 2019      Amanda Darley, Head of Operations and Engagement

This year we are splitting our VAT on Land & Property course into two completely separate courses, to enable the content to be better tailored to the level of the delegates.

We are delighted that Martin Scammell, the leading expert on VAT and property, will be running an update on land and property VAT in higher education for BUFDG members on 31 March.

Martin will review recent case law and HMRC policy affecting property and construction VAT, and consider the implications for the HE sector. Topics include:

  • the CGS – case law and possible changes;
  • student accommodation;
  • students unions and partial exemption;
  • RCP annex cases and the meaning of ‘construction’;
  • energy-saving materials installation - new rules and guidance;
  • disabled works; customer claims for overpaid VAT;
  • licences to occupy and the scope of the exemption.

This course is aimed at those who already have a good working knowledge of VAT and property, and are prepared to come along with experiences to share and discuss.

Martin will present the course in London on 31 March, and you can find more details and book onto the course here.
