Costing and Contribution of Teaching Activities Report

To date, the sector’s focus on costing has predominantly been to meet the needs of organisations other than universities themselves. Logically such costing requires a consistent approach in order to ensure consistent and comparable outputs. Following feedback from members, BUFDG felt a report which captured and shared current good practice relating to meeting the internal needs of universities would benefit many universities and Higher Education Providers.

The aim of this Costing and Contribution of Teaching Activities Report is to provide experience based guidance to universities as they engage in activities relating to the costing and establishment of the contribution of Teaching activities, for internal purposes. The report was developed by Alan Bates, an independent consultant for HE, with the involvement of more than 12 universities that are active in costing teaching activities.

This report takes you through:

  • the objective, scope and approach
  • how to get the most from the report
  • the universities who were involved
  • the reasons for the production of costing information
  • three identified areas of costing practice
    • Costing of new / future teaching activities, including an example model.
    • Costing of an existing teaching portfolio
    • Curriculum transformation
  • Costing success factors

We will be running two Time to Talk webinars with Alan Bates on the 2 November 1-2pm and 14 November 10-11am for members to ask questions about the report.

If you have any queries, please contact Rachel.
