Over the last few weeks we’ve covered a number of arguments around the size of the HE sector and whether the graduates it produces are too many or desperately needed for the UK economy. The figures from the latest HESA longitudinal survey on the Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education add a little more perspective, showing a snapshot of graduate employment three and a half years into their working lives. The graduates covered in the survey completed their degrees in 2010/11.
The survey shows that the number of leavers in employment had returned to 82.4%, just 0.4% below its pre-crash peak, with the unemployment rate dropping to 2.7% for 10/11 leavers compared to 3.4% for those who finished HE in 2008/09. The expansive data in the rest of the survey covers graduate employment industries, wages, locations, institution mission group, and more. The THE covers the report in a short article.
