Treasury - Adventures in Wonderland - 27th June

Do you want an adventure into Wonderland?  Bookings are now open for our virtual treasury event on Tuesday 27th June. The event is packed full of interesting seminars, the opportunity for networking, online discussion and even a virtual exhibition hall! The whole event is online, so all you need to attend is a either a PC, laptop, IPad, or similar with a reliable connection and you are set! From your desk, home, meeting room, it’s your choice. There’s no pre booked travel or accommodation needed for this one. The event will open at 9am for registration and completion of online profiles for a 9.30am start. The event will finish at approximately 4pm.

Who should attend?

The event is aimed at anyone who will find the topics useful. We hope there is a good mix of content for everyone who works in treasury, who work with aspects of treasury or anyone with an interest in the topic. If you want to network with others on treasury matters within HEI, this will be a good opportunity to meet new contacts and ask questions.

What will the event cover? 

The event will host the following seminars. Each will be a maximum of 30 minutes with additional time for Q&A.  

  1. Economic Headwinds. What’s happening in the current market, what to look out for and where to source information(Ross Walker, Sonia Gadhia, Dominic Brindley, George Flynn, Barrie Davison, Royal Bank of Scotland).
  2. Working Capital.  Why it matters! What is it and why we should look after it.  (David Hykin and Wendy Whewell, Relationship Directors, Lloyds).
  3. Raising Debt: Insights from Edinburgh University on their debt raising experience.  What was the need, how they approached it and what were the key learnings.   (Terry Fox, Director Specialist Service, Edinburgh University).  
  4. A Different Perspective on Treasury Management.  Mike Stevenson (Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee at Futures Housing Group) talks about managing treasury risk within the housing sector and the learnings that can be taken from this for HEI.
  5. Raising Capital on the Finance Market.  Private placements and public bonds, the different types of finance available and the key considerations(Suzy Verma, Head of Public Sector and Higher Education, HSBC).
  6. Responsible Investment.  The incorporation of environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors into investment decision-making is becoming more mainstream. What are the implications and opportunities for the education sector, and how can universities develop responsible investment strategies that deliver sustainable financial returns? (PRI).
  7. Managing Currency Risks.  The current challenges faced by HEIs and how to mitigate the risks (Oliver Pryke, Corporate FX, Barclays).
  8. Governance.  David O’Hara, from KPMG’s investment advisory team, will explore areas of governance and risk management that are key to running a successful treasury management programme for your institution.

In addition to the above, there will be virtual exhibition stands you can visit and talk to the hosts.  There will also be online discussion areas.  Once you have registered there will be an opportunity to suggest discussion topics.
